I have been a bit away from posting since I am trying to both enjoy my own vacation AND to spend the time needed to get my Team Fortress 2 Custom Map completed, so I figured I would remind everyone of this awesome new MMO that has been out for some time now. It is called Outside! Anyway, here is my quick holiday review.
BTW...my TF2 map is coming along nicely and I'm looking to test it out this week. Lemme know if you can help.
Physics of Infinite Complexity
OMG...you saw my previous post about the physics the Crysis Engine? Well that was actually a rendered video that would have been impossible to watch real time. In Outside, you could REALLY stack those boxes and see it happen at well over 60fps (might be sub-30fps if your character is drunk). Only downside is that in Crysis you could turn off avatar damage. In Outside, if those suckers landed on you, you die!
Server Has Never Crashed
The server has never crashed...it's that simple. Ok, so clients crash ALL the time (I still blame Microsoft), but the server has NEVER crashed. Not to mention, everyone plays on ONE server! How cool is that.
Game Within a Game
So you really enjoy WoW more than Outside (most WoW players do), well the amazing thing about Outside is that their game is so forward thinking that they actually let you log into WoW from inside the game. Yes, you can play a session of your second favorite MMO from inside Outside.
All Senses Used
Simple as that. All you Sim's Online and Second Life people just imagine the possibilities. ;)
Full Range of Emotions
Ok, they might have gone too far with this one...I am not really sure how I felt when my character first felt Ambivalence.
Micro Transactioned To Death
It doesn't matter that you can get into the game for free...you are about to be micro transactioned to death. There are all sorts of requirements that your avatar has, like eating and drinking, which all cost money. Also, if you want player housing, you have to pay rent. Want to go to the shitty zoo, micro transaction. Want to not have your character be naked...micro transaction. Basically, everything costs in-game money. Booo!
Questing is Confusing
The quest system is really strange. It comes in two versions, basically.
1) You are told that you can achieve anything you want, you just have to work hard and be smart. Then the quest givers send you out into the world and send you on your way. There is no quest journal and even if their was I don't think it would help. So lost...
2) You are told exactly what you are going to do and you have no choice in the matter. Most players who get this quest are not happy with the game and some even cancel their accounts.
Graphics Degrade Over Time
It has tended to take years, but for some strange reason the graphics tend to actually degrade over time. Yes, you heard me right. Graphics get WORSE. Players have do have the option to purchase Glasses which can be worn on your character's head, but you usually sacrifice wearing head armor.
Takes Years to Get Ahead
It literally takes YEARS of time of non-stop play to get ahead. I mean, it's not as bad as EVE Online, but it comes close. I have been playing for 28 years and I have yet to be in a large raid.
PvP Rules Too Strict
Ok, who the hell made the rule where competing in PvP publicly gets your character put in jail? Also, who the hell thinks I'm gonna keep playing the game once my character is restricted to jail permanently? How this game expects to make money, I have no idea. Sometimes, you just want to kill people for no reason...isn't that were half of the fun is? Gawrsh...
Ok, so I will leave you with one final thought. I am actually writing this post from within the game! How's that for blowin your mind!?
